Harry 'Steve' Morgan (Bogart) makes his living on the Island of Martinique as the captain of a small boat for hire. But the events of WWII make life difficult for all. Against his better judgement, Harry decides to help a resistance fighter on the run from the Nazi's, and at the same time meets up with a desperate and beautiful thief (Lauren Bacall). His life is about to take a leap into dangerous territory....
