Two of Bogie's greatest films, The Maltese Falcon and Treasure of the Sierra Madre, will soon be available in high definition on Blu ray. The official
release date is set for October 5th, 2010.
The Maltese Falcon disk, in addition to presenting the film in high definition 1080p resolution, includes all the same extra features that were included on the previous Three-Disc Special Edition DVD,
except for the two earlier 1931 and 1936 non-Bogart versions of the film. However as these are contained on their own single disk (disk #2) in the DVD set, those fans who already have the DVD, and want
these two films, might just hold onto that particular disk.
Treasure of the Sierra Madre is also presented in high definition 1080p resolution, and again features most of the extras from the fantastic Two-Disc Special Edition DVD. Missing in action is
the very good photo/artwork gallery that is on the DVD set, and also the 10 of the 12 Bogart film trailers as well, however 6 of these missing trailers are present on the Maltese Falcon Blu ray,
so in the end we just lose 4 trailers. The Blu ray version of Treasure also gets a new previously unreleased feature, titled "outtakes", which would appear to be actual film outtakes. |
